Television
is a powerful medium. Not only does it mirror
our society, it has the power to shape our culture.
Unfortunately for African Americans, television programming
in the past has generally created negative stereotypes
of black society. Today's youth, especially, have
adopted questionable role models whom they emulate.
At a time when the African American community desperately
needs positive role models, Gangsta rappers, drug
dealers, pimps and playahs are convincing an entire
subculture that the way to success is quick, easy,
sometimes illegal, and often violent.
"Make
It Happen" is a refreshing alternative
to typical programming targeting African American
viewers. It provides an uplifting glimpse into the
lives, struggles and motivations of everyday African
Americans who have overcome obstacles to achieve their
dreams of success. By witnessing these powerful stories,
viewers will see that there is no adversity too difficult,
no challenge too great. Because when you believein
your dreams and yourself, you can make it happen! |
